WilminGO, the state’s first golf cart taxi service, returned to Downtown Wilmington for its second season on May 15, 2019. This season the service will offer expanded ride hailing methods and payment options making it even easier for riders to get around, including hotspot pick-up locations, call ahead service, curbside ride hailing, and onboard cash and credit payment. Additionally, riders may continue to book a ride and pay directly through the WilminGO app, available for iPhone via the App Store and for android via Google Play.
WilminGO will introduce a number of pick-up locations at popular Downtown destinations for passengers to hop on and hop off at their leisure when signs displayed. The current hotspot locations include DE.CO, Bardea, The Queen, and LOMA Coffee, but may change throughout the season. The cart will stop at each hotspot approximately every 20 minutes during normal operating hours.
Riders will also now be able call drivers directly at 302.513.5135 to request pick up or hail the cart curbside similar to a traditional taxi service. Passengers will be able to issue payment via cash, credit, or Venmo while onboard at a flat rate of $3 per single passenger and $5 per group.
WilminGO will be accepting riders through October 31st from Monday-Wednesday 11 AM-3 PM, Thursday-Friday 11 AM-3 PM and 5-11 PM, Saturday 11 AM-11 PM, and Sunday 10 AM-6PM. WilminGO operates within a select radius in the Downtown Wilmington vicinity, spanning from 2nd and Market to 12th Street. Click here to view a full coverage map for the 2019 season.
Launched in the Fall of 2018 through a partnership between The Buccini/Pollin Group (BPG) and University of Delaware Horn Entrepreneurship, WilminGo was inspired when Chris Buccini, Co-Founder of the Buccini/Pollin Group, took a visit to Nashville, where golf cart taxis are prevalent. Chris had a vision to bring the service to Wilmington, DE and developed a BPG-Horn Summer Fellows Program to make it happen. The program serves as a bridge between the bright, entrepreneurial energy of the University of Delaware students within Horn Entrepreneurship and The City of Wilmington.
Through the BPG-Horn Summer Fellows Program, student Andrew Cercena has been able help facilitate the growth of WilminGO from a single business plan to a successful new business venture.
“I feel so appreciative to have been one of the first students to experience first-hand what it’s like to launch a start-up in the City of Wilmington through the BPG-Horn Summer Fellows Program,” said Andrew Cercena, WilminGO Co-Founder. “With the support from BPG, I have gained invaluable knowledge throughout the entire process of launching of WilminGO that has only increased my entrepreneurial desire to pursue new ideas for a better Wilmington.”
As the WilminGO cart sponsor of again this season, WSFS is proud to support the entrepreneurial spirit of the business as well as the convenience the cart brings to the downtown area. Additional sponsorship opportunities to advertise on the cart are also available.
