Developer tees up golf cart taxi service in downtown Wilmington

Wilmington officials have worked diligently in recent years to bring the Delaware city’s once-crumbling downtown back to life.

Their efforts are starting to pay off. Restaurants, bars, residences and shops dot the 12-block stretch that had been filled with vacant or rundown storefronts.

Last year, while Chris Buccini visited Nashville, Tennessee, he experienced riding on a golf cart as a form of transportation. When he returned to Delaware, he said, "this would be a great addition to the city of Wilmington." Matt Lomabrdi and Andrew Cercena, two UD seniors in the Horn Entrepreneurship program, co-created the app, bringing Buccini's idea to life.

WilminGO Featured in Delaware Business Now: App-based Wilmingo golf cart taxi service to operate in city through October

Buccini/Pollin Group, Inc. announced as of September 19, WilminGO, a golf cart taxi service is operating through the BPG-Horn Fellows program. The service is accepting riders through their app, downloadable both through iTunes and Google Play.

Buccini/Pollin is the leading commercial and residential developer in downtown Wilmington.

WilminGO completed testing and will be available between May 1stand October 31stfrom Monday-Wednesday 11 a.m.- 3 p.m., Thursday-Friday 11 a.m.- 3 p.m., 5 p.m.- 1 a.m., Saturday 1 p.m.- 1 a.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.- 6 p.m.

The cart can hold up to five passengers, with flat-fee rates of $3 for one or two people, and $5 for more than three passengers.

The launch of a fare-driven golf cart taxi service for the Market Street area in downtown is expected in the near future as a way to put a small dent in the issue of getting around downtown.

TownSquare Delaware reports the service came about after Buccini/Pollin Group co-president Chris Buccini saw the service in action in Nashville, TN.
